a long, long time ago...

Missing Witches is created by Amy Torok and Risa Dickens: old friends, creative collaborators, curious crafters, big cacklers, howlers at the moon, grumpy old crones, just a couple of perpetual baby Witches living, writing, and recording out in the woods on unceded Anishinaabe territory, in Quebec, Canada.

Missing Witches is an art and activism project, a public research project.

Missing Witches' mission is to tell stories and gather community so that we might resist the egregores of isolation, powerlessness, and scarcity that have been cast by "imperialist white supremacist capitalist patriarchy" and in doing so help nurture the re-enchantment of the world.

Missing Witches began as an excuse for us to do research we longed to do into the ideas and people we felt were missing from our lives.
We want to learn from artists, poets, academics, and activists who are conjuring better possible worlds.

Missing Witches began as one podcast (now it's 4!). That podcast birthed two books so far, Missing Witches: Reclaiming True Histories of Feminist Magic and New Moon Magic: 13 Anti-Capitalist Tools for Resistance and Re-enchantment. The project continues to be able to take new shapes thanks to the contributions – material and philosophical – of our coven.

We’re dedicated to:

  1. contributing to an intersectional, feminist history of ideas.
  2. sharing marginalized and occulted ideas about what’s possible.
  3. helping to build communities of care.

Each year, in a spirit of reparation, we donate the entire May earnings from Missing Witches coven membership payments to the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal, and we organize an annual fundraiser and conversation with Indigenous thinkers. Find out more.
