Come to our party!! For Halloween aka Samhain aka the halfway point between the Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice, I'm joined by a CONFLUENCE of Witches: Casey Zabala, Edgar Fabian Frias, Eliza Swann, and Sanyu Estelle.
This panel was inspired by an extraordinary book of essays, a modern witches anthology, that Casey compiled and edited called A Confluence of Witches. All of today's guests contributed essays to what has become, for me, an indispensable resource as I navigate a world of magic and witchcrafters.
I asked the group their thoughts on what the state of Witchcraft might look like in 2027, and they were oracles all. But as Eliza pointed out, "It's a river of voices that makes the oracular statement." Together we form a confluence, a constellation, and a coalition!!!

In 2018, she founded Modern Witches, a community dedicated to bringing together witches, seekers, and the magically curious. Drawing on her studies and practices of Daoism and Ifá, she explores how words, histories, and cultural narratives shape our understanding of reality. Sanyu works with tarot and other forms of intuitive reading, alongside poetry, performance, and music. Her forthcoming book, The Cultural Roots of Tarot, investigates the histories and cultural contexts of tarot, challenging simplified accounts of its origins and meanings.

Their work spans installation, video, digital art, performance, and community-based practice, bringing Indigenous knowledge into conversation with technology, queer aesthetics, and spirituality. Their work has appeared at institutions including the Vincent Price Art Museum and the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. Edgar's practice invites audiences to imagine more expansive, interconnected futures.
