We're down to the last days of our annual Reparations Season, a season which for us is full of tremendous love.
We feel the support of a circle of friends and loved ones and internet strangers who have become friends and loved ones, all pulling together from their different places in the world, different locations in the power geometry, different outposts on land that before this era of catastrophic, fascist, genocidal late-stage capitalism was tended for hundreds of thousands of years by many different peoples who seemed to arrive at one shared insight summarized by the refrain:
All My Relations.
This teaching is echoed by First Peoples, animist peoples, and Indigenous peoples all across the globe. It is the knowledge that imperialism had to suffocate in order to justify cancerous expansion: we are kin with it all.
All plants, all animals, all peoples. The very rivers and caves are our family. All is sacred and alive.
But that knowledge didn't square with the objectification of value symbolized by the accumulation of the abstraction that is money.
And so it was cut from us.
And so we got sick.
As the planet got sick, we got sicker too.
I am writing to you from the cancer body, the infected body.
We got sick, as above so below.
The sickness accelerated through the world: a severing of self from others, not just enemies but aliens. A story that said we are separate. A story that forgot relation.
And while all that rages, witches seed and stitch.
Around the wheel we go, building the inertia of bodies in motion toward repair.
As we send money, labour, and love to Indigenous people and the organizations they are stewarding all over the world—people showing us, leading us in the ways of repair—the love blooms with all the vast, incredible power of an acorn becoming a forest of oak trees.
Every year, Reparations Season reminds us that another way of being together is possible. That repair is possible. That relationships can be tended. That solidarity is not an abstract ideal but a practice.
And all that love is here.
A vast pool for you to pour yourself into and to draw on when you need lifting up.
